Year 9 Options

Information for Key Stage 4 2026–2028  for parents and students of Year 9 in 2025-2026

Options Evening:   Thursday 26th February 2026 

Students:

This year you will need to make some important choices about your future.  To help you make the right decisions for you, you need to:  

1. Research the subjects available and discuss the options with your parents
2. Ask your teachers which subjects are more suitable for you. 

1. Look at careers resources or visit the careers library for advice.

1. Only choose a subject if you are interested in it and really enjoy it or if you are good at it. 
2. Avoid being guided by your friends’ choices or because you think that a particular teacher will be teaching you. 

If you have any problems see your Form Tutor or Miss Cossburn, Director of Year 9. 

Remember the Options process is designed to help YOU make informed choices about the subjects you wish to study at examination level in Years 10 and 11. 

Important additional notes: 

1. Your performance and attitude in subjects during Year 9 is important and may be used to judge whether particular subjects are appropriate for you to study at KS4. 

1. It may not be possible to give you your first choice due to time-tabling constraints, staffing constraints or group sizes. 

1. Teachers will guide you through the process and may feel a different subject is more suitable for you. 

1. If insufficient students choose a particular option subject, it may not be possible for that subject to run. 
2. Interviews will be held with students and possibly their parents where there is concern about the subject chosen or if it is not possible to allocate their choices.
