The Wavell School

Prize Giving 2025

Our Annual Prize Giving took place on Thursday 10th July 2025 where we congratulated our outstanding students in each Year for their achievements in all subjects and gave a platform to some amazing musical talents.

This year we were delighted to welcome back former Wavell Student, Callum Jones as our Guest Speaker.

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome back Callum, currently a self employed videographer, editor and photographer, who delivered a truly inspiring speech which resonated with many, a section for which can be read below:

There’s a lesson in that – your grades matter, for sure, but your creativity, your drive, your ability to show what you can do – that counts too. Sometimes, that counts more. And to that point, I know so many people who didn’t go to university and are absolutely smashing it. You don’t need a degree to be successful. People like Stormzy, Adele, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Maya Jama – they didn’t follow the traditional academic route. What they did have was passion, consistency, and belief in themselves… You don’t need to have it all sorted by 16. Or 18. Or even 25. Some of the greatest artists to have lived didn’t create their “masterpieces” until their late 50s. Life isn’t linear. You’ll try things. You’ll fail. You’ll succeed. You’ll pivot. And in the middle of all that, you’ll grow... So, try stuff. Say yes to things. Say no to what doesn’t feel right. Take care of your mental health. And most of all, don’t be afraid to carve your own path, even if it doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

We were also honoured to have Alex Baker MP join us to present the Amanda Rowley Award for the Wavell Way.
