Ofsted 2026
The Wavell School met the Expected Standard or higher in every single area. Importantly, there are no areas that ‘Need Attention’ or require ‘Urgent Improvement’.
Mrs Wright, Headteacher of The Wavell School, is delighted to share the final Ofsted report from our inspection in January 2026.
The Wavell School Ofsted Report 27th January 2026
This new report sits within Ofsted’s completely revised framework, which raises expectations nationally and no longer gives schools a single overall grade. Instead, schools are assessed across several key areas using a new colour-coded report-card system.
Mrs Wright is incredibly proud that The Wavell School met the Expected Standard or higher in every single area. Importantly, there are no areas that ‘Need Attention’ or require ‘Urgent Improvement’. This is a significant achievement under the heightened standards of the new framework.
Under this new system, the benchmark for “Expected Standard” is intentionally high—it reflects that a school is doing everything it should be doing to give pupils the education, care, and support they deserve. This is described directly by Ofsted as the school “fulfilling the expected standard of education and/or care… following the standards set out in statutory and non-statutory legislation and the professional standards expected of them.”

The report highlights that The Wavell School provides “a safe, positive, and caring culture” with safeguarding standards fully met and leaders establishing “an open culture in which safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility… [so that] pupils are made safer and feel safe.”
Students “progress well through the curriculum in all subjects… gain appropriate qualifications and are ready for the next stage in their education.”
Attendance has “improved significantly” with inspectors noting that “leaders are tenacious in ensuring that they know the barriers to pupils’ attendance.”
Behaviour across the school was praised, with the school described as “calm and orderly” and Mrs Wright was thrilled that they noted that “bullying is rare” and that “harassment or abuse are not tolerated.”
Inclusion and SEND provision were found to be strong, because “Positive relationships with families and engagement with external partners put pupils at the centre of leaders' approach to inclusion.”
Leadership and governance were commended as “Leaders know the school’s strengths”
Finally, students “are polite, positive, and enthusiastic… they value their community and have a strong sense of belonging.”

These strengths reflect the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our community. They also demonstrate how far the school has come—and how much ambition we continue to have for every child.
