Mistral Blow the Competition Away!

Sports Day 2022

Friday 15th July saw us make our return to the Garrison Military Stadium for our annual whole school Sports Day. Having been unable to run the event in 2020 & 2021 it was great to be back out there for the day; and what a day it was!

With the sun beaming down on the Stadium, the students made sure they were well hydrated throughout and the Ice Cream van was visited regularly during the afternoon session. The morning field events- and middle/long distance track races- produced some memorable moments, particularly the throws. Two long standing school records were broken in the space of an hour just before midday, with Louis Laws (Year 9) beating M Kouris’ 2012 Shot Put  record of 11.10m and Will Bryant (Year 10) beating M Watson’s 2007 Javelin record of 42.23m. An outstanding effort by both boys!

In the afternoon, with the short track finals coming to an end, Aqua- the 2019 winners and current holders- were set for a photo finish alongside Mistral. Each event is worth 15 points to the winner, with 14 for second, 13 for third etc and the final result came down to just a 43 point difference, with Mistral’s score of 2,297 beating Aqua’s 2253. Bronze place went to Terra.

Mr Panons was full of praise for the students’ efforts and attitude on the day and would like to place on record his sincere thanks to the staff for their support throughout the day, Major Murdoch for allowing us use of the Garrison Stadium and presenting the trophy to the winning house and the PE team for all their hard work over the past few weeks and from very early on, on Friday.

A true team effort.  Well done Mistral!
