Ignis on Fire despite the British Weather!

Friday 5th July 2024 started off rather wet however, our spirits were not dampened and by the time we all made our way to the Garrison Stadium across the Polo Fields, the rain had eased and Sports Day commenced.

The morning field and long distance track events were punctuated by the occasional short shower but this did not stop proceedings and, by the afternoon the sun even made appearance to coincide with the eagerly awaited ice cream vans!

Excitement continued to build during the afternoon track events culminating with the final events of the day, the Relays. Banners were waved and the cheers echoing round the stands, as each Year Group competed for the final points of the day, were deafening. It was then time for the final scores to be announced....

Year 7 House Winners = Mistral

Year 8 House Winners = Mistral by just 4 points

Year 9 House Winners = Terra

Year 10 House Winners = Ignis by a massive 94 points

The stands erupted as Ignis was declared Overall Winning House with Miss Mitchell and her Prefects jumping for joy!

Highlights of the day included:

In the field events the Year 7 Boys Triple Jump record was broken by Koen R, who broke last year's record by an astonishing 53cm. Koen was awarded KS3 Performer of the Day - Definitely a name worth remembering for the future!

On the track, Darcey L Year 9 once again broke the Girls 300m record with a time of 47.03 after having also broken the Year 8 record last year. Will she make it 3 years in a row in Year 10??

In the new Boys 300m events Louis D set the record in Year 9 with a fantastic time of 39.10 while Shayan L set the Year 8 record as  44.91. Some great times to aim for going forward.

Nia Stake was the final record breaker of the day, smashing a long-standing 24 year old record in the Year 9 Girls 100m with a time of 13.28. Nia was awarded KS4 Performer of the Day
