Hampshire Book Award 2014

The Hampshire Book Award is a special award that goes to one of six books nominated by last year’s student judges. Previous winners have included; My Sister Lives on the Mantlepiece by Annabel Pitcher, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel.

The six books for this year were; Wonder by R.J. Palacio, A Tangle of Traitors by F.E. Higgins, Chasing The Dark by Sam Hepburn, Far Rockaway by Charlie Fletcher, After Tomorrow by Gillian Cross and Hostage by Chris Bradford.

On Friday 27th June 2014, some Year 8s went on the Wavell minibus to Frogmore College. When we arrived, we were put into table groups to discuss the books with students from other schools. After the discussion, we did a general book quiz followed by the voting…

Each book was rated out of 10 for the three Es: Enjoyment, Engagement and Enrichment. This was to help us decide which book deserved to come first!

They announced the book with the most votes across Hampshire and the book with the most votes just in our meeting. They were exactly the same! The winner of the Hampshire Book Award 2014 was Hostage by Chris Bradford!

It was a fun morning and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Congratulations to Chris Bradford, a well-deserved winner and thank you to Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Willis for taking us.
