Diversity Week & Culture Day 2026

This year, Diversity Week provided a range of opportunities for students and staff to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community and further promote inclusion, belonging and respect. Although the planned Culture Day was shortened due to the extreme heat and early school closure, the day remained a vibrant and meaningful celebration of identity and heritage, with students and staff embracing the opportunity to represent their cultures through traditional dress, national colours, flags representing their heritage and clothing that reflected their personal identities. From vibrant gurung dresses, saris, kurtas, asoebi & gele, to football shirts from around the world, the school hallways came alive with colour.

Throughout the week, diversity was embedded across the curriculum. Every lesson began with a subject-specific Diversity 'Do It Now' task, encouraging students to consider different perspectives and contributions within each curriculum area. Staff and students also took part in a whole-school 'Table Talk' initiative during tutor time, discussing questions celebrating diversity, inclusion and differences.

Culture Day 2026

Students in tutor time contributed to a collaborative display by decorating handprints to represent their culture, heritage and identity, creating a visual celebration of the diversity that exists within our school. The Wavell Café supported the week by offering a selection of cultural dishes, providing students with the opportunity to experience foods from different countries and traditions.

Congratulations to the winner of the Art Competition - Fareeha A Y9. Her artwork is truly beautiful and will be placed on display in Reception.

The week before Diversity week, our year 8 student leaders delivered assemblies explored themes of allyship, respect and celebrating our differences , reinforcing our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the school quad was beautifully decorated with flag bunting for the second-year running, representing countries from across the globe. It created a striking visual reminder of the many cultures that make up our school community and set the perfect backdrop for the day's celebrations. Diversity week - and Culture Day in particular - was more than just a celebration. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to connect, learn from one another, and take pride in who they are. The week reminded us that our differences don't separate us, they enrich our community and help us grow stronger together.
