A Puzzling Day for Year 7!
Wednesday 10th July 2024 was Puzzle Day for our Year 7 students.
They were set a variety of mathematical, logic and physical challenges to challenge their problem solving abilities and to use teamwork, organisational and communication skills to succeed. Split up into House teams of up to 7 students, the teams competed against each other in their House to be crowned overall winners as well as competing to be the winning House of the year.
The six tasks were; Tantrix, Stepping Stones, Hula Hoop Race, Build a Cube, The Acid River and Frogs on a Log.
For the 'Hula Hoops' task, students had to pass a hoop (or two) across the linked arms of their group without touching either it or allowing it to touch the floor. Various challenges were added in smaller sizes of hoops and passing multiple hoops around their group.
Another task was 'Frogs on a Log', where students needed to cross their groups across their “lilypads”, however one “frog” could only hop over another of a different colour and needed a gap to be able to hop into. The challenge was in figuring out how to move their frogs from each side without getting stuck in the quickest time.
Year 7 Puzzle Day 2024
The competition was incredibly tight, with only several points separating each of the teams. Well done to Ignis 6 for being the top team overall at Puzzle Day and Aqua for being the overall House winners.
Congratulations to each of the students who took part and thank you to the Year 9 helpers and the Year 10 Prefects who assisted the Maths Faculty.
