A Midsummer Night's Dream

On 19th November 2014 a group of Wavell students performed our second entry to the Shakespeare Schools Festival, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at G Live in Guildford.

Their performance was outstanding. A sentiment echoed by the Festival Co-ordinator, Jasmine Tucker,

A Midsummer Night's Dream was imaginative, whimsical and humorous. Each character was clearly defined, it was clear that the cast, whether a main role or part of the ensemble, had put time and effort into fine tuning their performance to create an ensemble of characters that not only gelled as a group, but shone individually. There were some gorgeous stage pictures, including the fairy bower, Oberon and Titania's amazing stage presence in their wings and ethereal make-up, the lovers arguing with spirit in their striped and checked pyjamas, and of course the hilarious staging of the play within the play. Finishing on a song, as they would have done in Shakespeare's Globe, was a beautifully light-hearted way to round off the action, and the melody from the epilogue tune is still stuck in my head!

Congratulations to you and your cast. I am already looking forward to seeing what you do next year!

Best wishes,
