GCSE PE is an optional subject that can be taken in KS4

Aim of the GCSE PE Curriculum

To enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of physical activity and sport by developing both practical skills and theoretical insight, encouraging their continued engagement within the sporting sector.

The knowledge the students will have by the end of the course:

Students will have an understanding of the musculoskeletal system including the structure and function of bones, muscles, and joints; mechanisms of movement including agonist/antagonist interactions.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of levers, planes, and axes and apply biomechanical concepts to optimise sporting performance within movement analysis.

Within Physical training students will identify the components of fitness, evaluate principles and methods of training (SPORT & FITT), and analyse strategies for recovery, injury prevention, and performance optimisation.

Students will be able to classify skills, implement goal setting, assess guidance and feedback, and analyse the impact of arousal, motivation, and personality on performance within sports psychology.

Students will have a deep understanding of socio-cultural factors influencing participation in sport and will be able to critically evaluate the impact of media, sponsorship, technology, and ethical considerations.

Students will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the benefits of physical activity for physical, mental, and social health, and will be able to analyse the consequences of sedentary behaviour and critically evaluate the role of diet, hydration, and body composition.

Students will be able to perform effectively in different physical activities by developing skills and techniques while selecting and using tactics, strategies and compositional ideas.

Students will have developed an ability to analyse and evaluate physical activity in order to improve performance.
