Cambridge National Level 2 in Sports Studies
SUMMARY OF SUBJECT CONTENT:
This course is designed to enable students to enjoy and understand the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle; to provide a route to further study in Further Education awards, such as A levels and/or other qualifications, and to Higher Education in PE as well as to related career opportunities.
Topics which will be covered during the course include:
- The range of physical activities and the different roles that the active participant can choose from
- The roles of the active participant
- Individual differences
- Fatigue, Stress & Injury
- Characteristics and benefits of leisure and recreation
- Health, fitness and a healthy lifestyle
- School Influences – opportunities and pathways available for becoming or remaining involved in physical activities
- Emotional Health and well-being
- Cultural and social factors
- International and other factors
You are assessed throughout the two years on three units. Two of the units are marked internally and then externally verified. One of the units is an exam on all the areas that have been covered throughout the theory content and is completed in written form under exam conditions, at the end of Year 11.

How will my child be assessed and how will I know how well they are doing in Sports Studies in Year 11?
Parents Evening and Progress Reviews will enable you track their current attainment level and attitude to learning/behaviour within the subject. The work produced will be marked internally before being externally moderated in the spring of Year 11.
At the end of Year 11 each student will sit their final exam and receive their overall grade in August 2024.
What homework will my child be expected to do in Year 11 in Sports Studies?
Students will be set homework at timely intervals throughout the modules in order to solidify their understanding of the topic areas.
Students will be directed to research particular stories and tasks that will support them in the completion of each module.
How can I support my child to do well in Sports Studies during Year 11?
- Encourage them to further develop their interest in sporting stories and topical events
- Support them to improve on their ability to work independently and create revision materials
- Encourage them to have PE kit for each practical lesson and to engage with the tasks in hand
My child is struggling during the course, what additional help is available to help them keep up?
- After school catch up sessions will be available
- Students should be encouraged to seek assistance from their teacher when they are struggling with any concept
