SUMMARY OF SUBJECT CONTENT:
This course is designed to enable students to enjoy and understand the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle; to provide a route to further study in Further Education awards, such as A levels and/or other qualifications, and to Higher Education in PE as well as to related career opportunities.
Topics which will be covered during the course include:
- Applied anatomy and physiology
- Movement analysis
- Physical training
- Use of data
- Sports psychology
- Socio-cultural influences
- Health, fitness and well-being
- Use of data
- Practical performance in three different activities as a player/performer (at least one individual & one team)
- Written analysis and evaluation of performance to bring about improvement in one activity
You are assessed throughout the two years on your ability to perform practically (and evaluate this) and also through two exam papers. Two of the units are marked internally and then externally verified. These are completed in written form under exam conditions, at the end of Year 11.

What will my child study during Year 10 and 11?
A mixture of Paper 1 and Paper 2 topics (see above).
How will my child be assessed and how will I know how well they are doing in GCSE PE in Year 10 and 11?
Parents Evening and Progress Reviews will enable you track their current attainment level and attitude to learning/behaviour within the subject. The work produced will be marked internally before completing different mocks assessments over the 2 years.
What homework will my child be expected to do in Year 10 in GCSE PE?
Students will be set homework at timely intervals throughout the modules in order to solidify their understanding of the topic areas.
How can I support my child to do well in GCSE PE during Year 10 and 11?
- Encourage them to further develop their interest in sporting stories and topical events
- Support them to improve on their ability to work independently and create revision materials
- Encourage them to have PE kit for each practical lesson and to engage with the tasks in hand
My child is struggling during the course, what additional help is available to help them keep up?
- After school catch up sessions will be available
- Students should be encouraged to seek assistance from their teacher when they are struggling with any concept
