The Rock Challenge gives students the opportunity to be part of a large scale event

  • The Rock Challenge takes place in professional theatres around the country.  A team can consist of up to 134 participants
  • Each school creates a dance/drama of between six and eight minutes set to a medley of pre-recorded music.
  • Performances are consistently high each year with standards often widely regarded as “professional”.

The Rock Challenge is a major part of youth culture in the U.K. and the Global Rock Challenge is aiming to foster links between cultures and schools around the globe.  In 2006 over 16,000 students took part in the Rock Challenge in the United Kingdom and over half a million throughout New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Japan, Dubai and South Africa.Wavell first entered the very first UK Rock Challenge event in 1996 with a performance entitled “Breaking the Scream”.

The success of the event has lead to The Wavell consistently entering teams of 134 participants to increasingly high standards. The Wavell School Rock Challenge team has appeared in more grand finals than any other school in the UK.  The consistency and professionalism of the Wavell teams has lead to invitations to perform at London’s Drury Lane Theatre, Germany and Japan.
