Senior District Athletics

It has been a particularly hard start to the Athletics season this year due to the competition being so early and the GCSE PE exam being held on the same day. As a result Wavell lost a number of talented Athletes in year 11, which unfortunately could not have been helped.

In total 7 students made up the Wavell Senior Athletics team and all did very well in their events considering that not much if any practice had taken place prior to the competition. The team made fantastic ambassadors for the school in behaviour, attitude and most importantly team moral. It was commented by members of staff how impressed they were with how all students supported one another.

I do not have a particular athlete of the day itself but I have to mention one or two athletes who stood out. From the U17 category competing a year early from year 10 Bradley Vye who completed the 100m in 12.1 seconds and finished 2nd overall  and Abi Fever who competed the 800m in 2.48 finishing 3rd. Additionally Abi was against competitors who currently represent England at Junior level. An outstanding achievement! From the U15 category from year 9 both Daniel Wyeth (Discus) and Luke Harris (Triple Jump) won both their field events and have the opportunity in representing Hampshire on Saturday 13th June. Good luck with the next stage of the competition!
