Tremendous Staff Spirit

Staff

The Headteacher of the Wavell School, Amanda Rowley, was delighted to be able to open the School today, Wednesday 4th February. She and her staff arrived ahead of the students and cleared the site of snow and ice using their own shovels brought from home. The Wavell has a large open site and Miss Rowley was concerned that it be made safe for all users. “The Staff at The Wavell are second to none. Their team spirit and care for the School are tremendous. I am very lucky to have them. The negative publicity on national television about schools not wanting to open is a nonsense. All Headteachers want to open their schools when it snows but we all have a legal duty to only do so if the site is safe. All  Headteachers  have to assess their own site and make a professional judgement. We were able to keep in close contact with our parents over the opening time as we have ParentMail. I hope that our parents felt that we had worked in partnership with them over the last couple of days.”

What to do in case of further snow
  • Check the school website as this is updated early each morning.
  • Phone the School at 8am as the message is changed for that day from 8am
  • Go on to the Eagle Radio website as they publish a list of schools during  snow closure
