History and Ethos
Our School is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive serving the civilian and military communities of North Camp, Farnborough and Aldershot. The Wavell is a community school, which also oversees the leisure and Adult education classes organised by the Wavell Cody Community Campus. It was named after Lord Wavell, one of the most inspirational generals of the 20th Century who also loved poetry.
On the doorstep of one of the biggest aerospace centres in Europe and with a direct link to the history of flight we are committed to becoming a centre of excellence of Science and Technology. At the beginning of the 21st Century we became a specialist technology and in 2002 we opened The Wavell Primary Science Centre as well as becoming the lead school in Launchpad for Learning, a charitable project sponsored by the aerospace industry aimed at inspiring and exciting students in the use and potential of Technology. The Wavell is a great place for students and staff to learn and work. The phrase “we care to challenge” is central to our ambition of becoming the best real comprehensive. We work hard to create a learning community in which all students and staff are challenged to exceed expectations. While we are committed to raising achievement we are determined to give our students an education which prepares them for learning and life. The record of our achievements over the past five years reflects this commitment. |
