Visit to The Military Band Corps

On Thursday 16th November 2017 a group of Year 7 students took a trip to visit The Military Band Corps rehearsal for their performance the same day at the Princes Hall. Their performance was supporting the British Legion and Help for Heroes.

Our students found out about what it was like to work for the Army and to play in a Military Band. Our students were able to see performances that the band were rehearsing for that evening. They performed a varied range of pieces: traditional pieces, Jazz and popular performances.

They provided a workshop for an hour and the students were asked if they would like to play the drums, conduct the orchestra, play in the orchestra with their own instruments.

Local schools in the area were invited to come along, but we were the only school that attended. As the tickets were free, I saw this as an amazing opportunity to allow our students to see a fully functioning Military Band. The students were really eager to get involved and had the confidence to get up on stage or even play an instrument that they haven’t played before. They were impressed with the confidence of our students and ability to listen and pay attention to the workshop leaders.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and expressed their appreciation with the Band at the end. The band leader will contact me for future opportunities.
