Ignis Retain Their Sports Day Title

Having switched to the new House system, of four Houses, for the first time last year, Ignis were crowned as the inaugural Sports Day Champions. Unfortunately for Terra, Aqua and Mistral, they managed to repeat this feat again for 2016.

With dark clouds overhead and strong winds whipping round the field, the first hour was difficult for competitors, but they were rewarded for their perseverance as the skies continued to clear and the weather brightened up. All of the field events took place in the morning alongside the hurdles and long distance runs, with the majority of competitor spaces being filled and only the occasional gap in the line-up. Huge points were gained prior to the lunch break and it was already shaping up to be a two horse race.

The entire school was positioned around the finishing line from 1.35pm onwards; apart from those choosing to buy an ice cream from one of the two vans! This, along with the sea of purple, green, blue and red attire created a fantastic atmosphere for our competitors to run their sprint races in.

By the time the scores had been added up- and Mr Hambleton (Chair of Governors) and Mr Murdoch (PE Link Governor) had the trophy in hand, ready for the presentation- it was either Aqua or Ignis who would be 2016 champions. With a strong Year 10 Ignis line up contributing heavily to the overall scores, the trophy retained its red ribbons for another year. Surely they can’t make it a hat-trick of wins in 2017?!

The PE team would like to thank everybody involved in helping them run Sports Day this year, from the members of staff who ran events in the morning and the score table all day, to the parents and relatives who came to support in the afternoon. You’re all stars!
