Battlefields Trip 2018

Students from Year 9, 10 and 11 went on a battlefields tour around the Ypres and Somme area from 19th to 20th October 2018.

It was a very informative, moving and poignant visit.

Students learnt about the development of the war and the nature of fighting in WWI.

We were able to pay our own commemorations to the Hampshire Regiment members who are buried at Redan Ridge.

Louis and Evan have a relative –Charles Meadus commemorated at Tyne Cot Cemetary.

We laid a poppy for Henry Gledhill who is named on the Aldershot WWI memorial.

Freya commemorated her relative who is named on the Menin Gate – John Mackenzie.

Jamie commemorated his relative T.E. Barrow who is buried at the Reseveir Cemetery in Ypres.

Practising living like soldiers...and testing out the kit!

The team tested out the gas masks to show how they developed over time.

We held our own memorial to commemorate those who fought and died in WWI. Harry, Joe and Sam completed a reading to honour the men and the girls laid a wreath.

Daisy and Victoria had relatives who fought in WWI. Lily’s relative George Kendall was a Minister during the war and he had his war diary published. Cadell’s relative Thomas Laurie is commemorated on the Thievpal Memorial to the missing.
